New Twist on an old Bass Fishing Favorite

Lot of chatter about this new bait from Zoom, they have retooled a bass catching machine in the Original Super Fluke and now have launched the Zoom Swimming Fluke.

With all the success of the Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper and other paddle tail swimbaits, this was just a matter of time. This looks like a great little bait, that will catch a ton of fish around vegetation and schooling fish.

The Zoom Swimmin’ Super Fluke has a paddle tail akin to a hollow-body swimbait, but it swims upright without the aid of a weighted hook and has an action only the cousin of the original fluke could have.

My Dad has started his annual pilgrimage to down south for fishing, before he left, he actually did a little sorting of fishing gear and realized he had way too many reels that were just sitting around. So I am selling a bunch of his Shimano reels on ebay for him and a handheld GPS. The first are listed now, more to come as I clean them up and look them over and get them ready for listing.

Is there anything handier?

Really, is there anything more handy then a good multi-tool on the boat or in the field. This past spring, I picked up a Leatherman Blast, and I think with a roll of duct or electrical tape and my Blast, I can fix anything I need to on my boat. It's light and compact enough to always carry in your tackle bag or box and takes up less space then a bunch of specialty tools.

The pliers can tighten nuts, like your battery terminals which need to be checked often. The screwdriver saved my bacon when my front depthfinder mount came loose during a tourney on Lake Michigan. I also have used my knive to cut lures free from underwater ropes that i have hooked, which when throwing a $16 japanse crankbait, the blast can pay for itself very quickly!

So if you don't have a multi-tool get one for your fall fishing and hunting excursions, or think about getting one for your outdoors hubby for Christmas!

Couple of Swimbaits hitting the shelves

There has been much talke about the Jackall Swimming Ninja & 4" Tru-Life swimbaits, both seem to be in stock at several stores.

Kota Kiriyama used the Jackall Swimming Ninja to sack a 35 pound bag during the BASS Elite Series on Lake Amistad and ultimately ran out of the baits as the fish destroyed what he had but he still managed a 12th place finish. The natural swimming motion of the bait coupled with a dead stick fall in front of followers was the key to enticing the big fish into committing. The Jackall Swimming Ninja is tested and proven to put big fish in the boat!

2009 Red River Bassmaster Classic Winning Lures & Gear

So here is a brief summary of the baits and gear used by Skeet Reese to win 2009 Bassmasters Classic!
Skeet used two main baits, the new Crazy Legs Chigger craw and the Lucky Craft Redemption Spinnerbait. These baits seem very fitting, since a chigger craw was Skeet's demise when Boyd Duckett used it to knock him to second on Lay Lake and Skeet designed the Redemption Spinnerbait for Lucky Craft and that is exactly what he got, REDEMPTION!!!

Simply Catches Bass

The next lure I am going to Blog about is a very simple & ordinary looking lure, but here is the deal, it flat catches bass. I have been using this to catch bass for years. It is the Lake Fork Ring Fry.

Like I said, it does not look like much, but then again neither do Senkos or Trick worms and we know they catch the heck out of bass as well. Here is how I use it to catch bass:

In water less then 4ft, I fish it weightless like many people fish senkos around docks, wood and scattered grass. The way I catch most of my fish, is to fish it on a Carolina or Mojo rig. The Carolina Rig is the choice for deeper water and scattered cover. I use the mojo rig in water 5-20ft where around just about any cover from thick weeds to gravel & rocks, its flat deadly!

Give the Ring Fry a chance, you will not be disappointed. Off all the anglers I have introduced this bait to, I don't any have ever complained.
